Jenx donates £500 to Ivy House School as part of National MOVE Day
Posted on 2nd December 2011
Ivy House School, in Derby, have today been announced 1st place prize winners of the National MOVE Day competition, organised by the charity MOVE Europe. Along with several other great prizes, we at Jenx are proud to donate a £500 voucher to Ivy House School in recognition of their award.
The School celebrated its achievement by re-enacting parts of its MOVE Day, held in May, complete with sword fighting, walk-the-plank and a treasure hunt. After the activities the pupils and many parents came together for a special assembly where the school were presented with its prizes and trophy. The day of celebration ended with a Pirate themed Café.
Ivy House fought off tough competition from schools across the UK to win National MOVE Day with its day of celebration that saw pupils and staff dressed-up as Pirates and included the best Pirate Ship cake ever seen by the judges. The School also raised much needed funds for the charity MOVE Europe.
Jenx has always been a strong supporter of the MOVE Programme, and National MOVE Day celebrates the achievements made by children improving their mobility on the MOVE Programme over the last year and recognises the difference that it makes to thousands of disabled children and their families.
The MOVE Programme - run by MOVE Europe, a small UK based charity aiming to provide severely disabled children with the opportunity of independent movement - is an activity based programme which combines the knowledge of family, education and therapy to help children to become active participants in their own lives. The MOVE Programme teaches the skills of sitting, standing, walking and transferring to the very best of each child’s ability. Each child works towards their own personalised goals whether it be to lift their head independently for 30 seconds, or to walk a short distance, with only their hand held for support so they can join their friends to play. You can find out more at www.move-europe.org.uk or visit Rifton’s information area around the MOVE Programme, which in a lot of cases were inspired by the MOVE Programme (see Dynamic Stander and Pacer Gait Trainer, for example) .
Pippa Sillitoe, Headteacher at Ivy House School, welcomes the award. She says: “We are delighted to win 1st Prize for our MOVE Day. All the children and staff got involved and did their bit and it was great to see them dressed up. However, the success the children make via the MOVE Programme is much more important. The programme has really enhanced our skills in helping children to improve and maintain mobility. Small improvements in mobility and independence have a huge effect on confidence and inclusion for the children. To these children, improved mobility means the chance to play with their friends and siblings and to explore their own environment, at their own pace. National MOVE Day was a great opportunity to mark these successes and to thank everyone involved in making them happen.”
