The DreamaTM is a pressure reducing 24hr positioning system, suitable for children and adults.
Jenx have long believed that night-time positioning should be of the same high quality as day time positioning. The importance of 24 hour positioning has become widely recognised over the last few years, as the continuation of good positioning throughout the day and night promotes improved skeletal development and better quality of life. Current thinking is that neglecting proper night-time positioning will take away from the benefits of any postural support given during the waking hours.

The DreamaTM is a key part of any 24hr postural management programme. Recognising that abnormal and posturally destructive tone is present 24/7, the DreamaTM system follows on from support offered by conventional positioning. Utilising a variety of available support pads, the system can be configured to support even the most complex of postures.
Supporting at risk limbs and reducing tonal spasms, the DreamaTM contributes towards more recuperative periods of rest, which in turn has a positive contribution towards minimising the risk of muscular skeletal deformity. Dreama TM can be used as a preventative system or to reduce the risk of further postural deterioration, and is therefore appropriate for any age.
Users who may benefit from DreamaTM include those with the following medical conditions: Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Arthrogryposis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and associated conditions, Post-trauma, Post-surgery, Spina Bifida and Scoliosis.
Quick and Simple!
With no difficult fastenings, no nuts and bolts, no noisy Velcro tape, just a supportive, full depth, pressure reducing mattress, and a large variety of support pad accessories that simply slide and lock in where needed, configurations can be changed with the minimum of disruption to the user.
DreamaTM is suitable for a great range of users with only a few exceptions (see below). It can be used as part of a 24 hour positioning programme with children or adults of any age. DreamaTM is particularly useful for those who, without the proper support, are likely to alter their position involuntarily and find themselves unable to readjust their posture so they are comfortable again. It can also be used in the care of older people, both those who are bed-bound and those recovering from operations such as hip replacements. Some examples of conditions where DreamaTM may be a useful therapy aid are:
DreamaTM is not a restraint. Individual risk assessments should be carried out to ensure the user’s safety. DreamaTM is not recommended for ambulatory individuals who are not cognitively aware enough to assess their own ability to transfer in and out of the positioning system.
A pressure reducing surface is one which distributes pressure over as large an area as possible, reducing the risk of pressure sores etc. Only pressure reducing foam is used in the DreamaTM cushions, giving the best support surface for the user.
The modular design of the mattress gives plenty of space for air to circulate, keeping the user cool whilst using DreamaTM. Also, the hoops, pads etc can be used to create a little distance between the user and the bedclothes, allowing for more air circulation and preventing the user from getting too hot.
All the covers are machine-washable and tumble-dryer safe. The base can be wiped with a damp cloth. Soap, antibacterial sprays and low pressure steam cleaning can also be used on the base. If the cushions need cleaning, they can be wiped with a damp cloth and/or antibacterial spray.
This really depends on the user. In most cases it is probably easier to slide the supports in after the user is in Dreama TM. If Dreama TM is used up against a wall you may wish to leave one set of supports in place all the time, and just remove the others to aid transfers. As the supports are likely to be removed and replaced often it is important that the therapist shows the carer how Dreama TM should be set up.
DreamaTM is at its best on a profiliing bed, however it can be used on its own on the floor, on top of a regular or profiling bed or on top of an existing mattress. If you don’t have a profiling bed, but want to profile DreamaTM, you can use rolls, wedges etc. under the metal base to profile DreamaTM.
In October David’s mother agreed to try the Dreama™ 24hr positioning system, going into this trial with an open mind and a ‘we’ll see’ attitude as past experiments had disappointed all of them. David’s therapist says “we were hoping that David’s night-time posture could be both corrective and comfortable and that David and his mum could get a good nights sleep."
After using the Dreama™ 24hr positioning system for four weeks David is starting to show a considerable amount of change in many areas. “I’m totally amazed at the progress David has made” says his mum.
